The South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) is hosting a free Household Hazardous Waste and Scrap Tire Collection event Saturday, April 17, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Robert A. "Bob" Bowers Civic Center at 3401 Cultural Center Drive in Port Arthur.  The event is open to all southeast Texas residents.
 
During this free event, the SETRPC collects items that could pose health and environmental risks if disposed of improperly.  The SETRPC will accept household hazardous items including paints, cleaners, antifreeze, batteries, used oil, insecticides, swimming pool chemicals, mercury, and much more.
 
The SETRPC will also collect scrap tires at no charge for the first eight tires.  A cash disposal fee of $1.00 is required for each additional tire. 
 
Materials not accepted during this event include electronics, appliances, pesticides or herbicides containing 2, 4, 5-T-Silvex (quantities less than 5 gallons will be accepted), explosives, and wood preservatives containing pentachlorophenol.

Census 2010

 

 

The U.S Census counts every resident in the United States and is required by the Constitution to take place every 10 years.

 

10 Questions, 10 Minutes: Make a Difference.

In March 2010, census forms will be delivered to every residence in the United States. Don't miss the opportunity to make a difference. The form will contain 10 short questions and a postage-paid envelope will be provided to mail it back. Those residents that do not mail back the form may receive a visit from a census taker, who will ask the questions on the form.

Every year, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion to state, local and tribal governments based on census data. These funds support tangible benefits in our community, such as hospitals, schools, emergency services, bridges, tunnels & other public works projects.

The U.S. Constitution requires that electoral districts be periodically adjusted or redrawn to account for population shifts. The Census will determine how many seats our state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives and is used in the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city council, and voting districts.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Request for Proposal

The South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) is seeking a qualified contractor to collect, transport, and dispose of household hazardous waste.  SETRPC is seeking to enter into a contract for household hazardous waste management services for up to six (6) one-day collection events over a three (3) year period.

SETRPC expects proposals to include all aspects of the event including mobilization/demobilization, collection, handling, treatment, packaging, transportation, and disposal of appropriate waste collected during the event.

Area Agency on Aging Request for Vendors

The South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) is accepting applications for vendors for the Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Texas’ (AAASET) Direct Purchase for Services program.  Applications are being requested for consideration to serve clients in Hardin, Jefferson, and Orange Counties for a variety of services and goods including:

• In-home Provider Services (Homemaker & Personal Assistance)
• Residential repair (general home repairs, building ramps, & bathroom modifications)
• Plumbing repair
• Air Conditioning & Heating purchases/installation/repair
• Home Appliance purchases/installation/repair

The AAA Direct Purchase of Services program is designed to promote the development of a comprehensive and coordinated service delivery system to meet the needs of older individuals (age 60 and older).  Vendor agreements provide a mechanism for the creation of a network of community resources created on a client-by-client basis through the Older Americans Act, as amended, and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services’ AAA Access and Assistance guidelines and the Texas Administrative Code requirements and restrictions.

Method of Distribution for 2nd Round of Hurricane Ike Funding

SETRPC recently approved its Method of Distribution (MOD) for $297,298,360 in 2nd Round  Hurricane Ike funding.  This funding will be used for both housing and non-housing activities in Hardin, Jefferson and Orange counties.
